Me mawo awoda pa

Today is a special day.  Sure we arrive in Tema, Ghana and I get to visit a new port that I have never been to, but that’s not what makes today so special.  Today is a special day because a beautiful and amazing woman celebrates her birthday today.  Happy Birthday Mom!

I’ve written about my wonderful mother before but it’s worth repeating what a special woman my mother is.  Without her I would never be the man I am today and I would never be traveling the world and getting to experience all these incredible places. So I am thinking about her today from across the Atlantic Ocean as I set off to explore another part of Ghana.

Thanks Mom for being the best mother a boy can ask for.  I hope you have a great birthday.

Mama's Boy

A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best,
but his mother the longest.
Irish proverb

I'm a mama's boy.  Always have been.  Always will be.

Last month I had some free time on my hands so I decided to write a letter to my mother.  Nobody writes letters anymore, which is exactly why I decided to do it.  During one of our phone conversations my mother mentioned how my grandfather used to write to her when she and I were living out of state and how she really enjoyed getting them in the mail.  I stored that nugget away until I had a little time to write her and tell her the a bunch of things I've always thought but just never said.

Here it what I wrote:

My mother loved the letter.  It made her cry, in a good way. I'm sharing it with the world so that everyone will know how much I care for her and to encourage others to say those things we never say because one day it may be too late.
