Today’s blog marks the 100th post here on
Gulliverstavern.com. It’s a special
thing for me and I’m really glad I started writing again. And it makes me really happy that people are
actually reading it.
It’s was also a special evening because tonight my Student Life
team got to go to special dining on the ship.
Special dining is a five-course meal and a giant step up from the usual
pork, pasta and potatoes that we get for dinner. We all got dressed up and were treated to a dinner
that included soup, salad, appetizers, a juicy steak and one of the best pieces
of chocolate cake I have ever had. The
chefs on the ship can do amazing things when they don’t have to cook for 800
people. Really the food here is not that
bad, it just gets repetitive.
I did almost have an embarrassing moment during dinner when I
received my baked scallop thermidor. I
wasn’t exactly sure what it was when I ordered it and when it was presented to
me I thought it looked like a pierogi. I
was all set to pick it up and take a bite when I noticed others eating it with
a fork. I inspected it further and
realized it was a scallop covered in sauce in a clam shell. Good thing I checked around because I
probably would have broken a tooth trying to eat the shell. Even at fancy dining my Yinzer roots show.

Sadly Kelly didn’t get to join us for dinner but she will
get to come to the staff special dining next week. Although I think I ate enough tonight for the
two of us. It’s been a challenge on the
ship to keep from overeating and tonight definitely didn’t help. I think I may have to go on a crash diet when
I get home. But only after I eat my fill
of my Mom’s delicious cooking and some NC BBQ I’ve been craving.
Hahaha Yinzer. That's how I feel here, even when we go out for pizza and my DC friends start eating it with a fork as I pick it up and inhale it. :)
