I've lived in North Carolina for almost a decade now and still hadn't made it to the zoo. Part of that is due to the zoo being in the middle of nowhere NC. Part is I just didn't have a reason to go.
The benefit to the zoo being all the way out in Asheboro is that there is lots of space. The animal enclosures were huge, especially compared to the tiny cages like the animals are kept in Burma.
Driving the hour plus out to the zoo was actually really nice because it was a beautiful day and I never take a Sunday drive anymore. And the best part was getting to see little Josie, our friend's Chase and Dori's adorable daughter.
We did get to see a bunch of animals. I really wanted to see the polar bears but they were nowhere to be found. I'm starting to believe that it's a big inside joke at the zoo. They say there is a polar bear but it's always in the other enclosure, meanwhile the staff is in the back laughing at the people as they look for it.
A few more pics after the jump...
