Avenue of Comic Fun

One of the funnest things we did in Hong Kong was visiting the Avenue of Comic Stars that was set up in Kowloon park.  It was only a short walk from our hostel and I ended up going through it three different times.
The walkway was about the size of a football field and it was a very cool display of 24 statues that represented different cartoon characters from Hong Kong dating back to the 60s.  It just opened back in September and is aimed at promoting the comic culture of Hong Kong.  Surprisingly Hong Kong is the third-largest comic exporter in the world behind Japan and the U.S but most of the characters are unknown outside of China.  There is now a lack of young people going into the industry and they are hoping the exhibit creates more interest.
Craig found a girlfriend.

The exhibit will last three years and I'm really glad we had the chance to see it.  Not only were the fiberglass figures interesting to see and read about, we also had a blast taking pictures with them on Wednesday night.  Striking the same pose as the character was especially fun.

The picture of Kelly above is her with Old Master Q, a friend of pets, monsters and aliens, and an enemy of injustice.  The picture to the right is Craig is hanging out with Miss 13 Dots who was first published in 1966 and set the trend for girl's comics.   Below Nicole is mimicing sad panda, either On On or Guy Guy, while I am giving a high-five to Bruce Lee and Willard strikes an epic pose with Tiger Shark.
